Health Plan Information

MEDICAL INSURANCE

New Employees hired on or after July 1, 2016 are enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA) for a minimum of two full plan years (January 1 through December 31). After that time, employees have the option during the annual open enrollment period to select from one of the three health plans offered: PPO Plan, Surest Plan and the HDHP.

Per Pay Period Health Insurance Costs 

Washoe County pays 100% of the premium cost of the employee coverage (based on employee contract agreements). Employees pays 50% of the dependent premium. 

Listed below are the per pay period costs for the health insurance coverage (includes medical, dental, vision and life insurance). The amount you pay for coverage is deducted from your paycheck on a pre-tax basis. *Domestic Partner premiums are a post-tax deduction.

The High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) is administered by UMR and the United Healthcare Choice Plus Network of Providers. The HDHP is paired with a Health Savings Account (HSA) administered by American Fidelity Assurance Company.

Prescription Benefits are administered by MaxorPlus.


American Fidelity    Health Savings Account (HSA)


A HSA is a tax-advantaged medical savings account available to employees who are enrolled in a qualified HDHP. Washoe County contributes $2,250 each year to employees on the HDHP. New employees will receive a pro-rated amount of the $2,250 based upon their benefit effective date. You can also contribute money to your HSA as a pre-tax payroll deduction. You can add/change your HSA contribution at any time in ESS.

Washoe County offers one self-funded dental plan administered by UMR and the network of PPO dental providers is provided by Guardian

To locate a dental provider:

  1. Visit guardiananytime.com and select Search Providers
  2. Select PPO under Plan Type
  3. Enter your Zip Code and State and Provider Last Name or Office, if available.

VSP Vision Plan


Washoe County offers one vision plan option through Vision Service Plan (VSP).

The Standard LogoLife Insurance


Washoe County provides basic life insurance coverage with a benefit maximum of $20,000. The benefit reduces to $13,000 at age 65 and $7,000 at age 70.

To enter/update life insurance beneficiary information, log into ESS, and select the Life and Work Events tab. Select the Beneficiary Change link and enter your beneficiary information.
